A'Ibom Assembly go against Court Order, Passes End of Rotational Headship

According to The vanguard news .. A’Ibom Assembly defies Court order, passes bill to end rotational headship. Even with the Court Order stopping Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly from passing the bill for a law to end rotational headship of the state Traditional Rulers Council (TRC) to allow permanent headship by the majority Ibibio ethnic group in the state. The State’s 8th House on Friday passed the Bill for a law to amend the Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 155 Laws of Akwa Ibom State, 2023 (HAB 316) against the disapproval by the people of Annangs, Akwa Ibom second largest ethnic group who had sought the restraining order from the State High Court presided over by Justice Ntong Ntong. Crime: End of the road for two criminals in Uyo.

FROM THE POLICE HEADQUARTERS THIS MORNING  Reported by our Uyo Correspondence: Abraham Timothy It was end of the road on Tuesday for two robbery gang members who robbed Uyo residents at Udoette by School Road, Ikot Udoro and its environs, as they met their waterloo in a gun battle with the Police. Another member of the gang, one Godswill Ntieno Isaac, was however lucky to have been picked up alive. Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi announced this today in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko Macdon. He said the Police were responding to a distress call at about 1:50am, last Tuesday when operatives of Quick Intervention Unit proceeded to the scene and on sighting the Police, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel. The Police chief said items recovered from the criminals include, 4 Locally made Pistols, 15 Live Cartridges, 2 Expanded Cartridges and one Iron Cutter.
