NDDC Launches Training Programme for 10,000 Niger Delta Youths

  Speaking at the launch in Port Harcourt, Ebie assured that the NDDC is committed to advancing the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and implementing impactful youth programmes. He said the youth training programme will equip 10,000 individuals in the Niger Delta region with the necessary training and expertise for paid employment and self-employment through entrepreneurship. Director-General of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said entrepreneurship and skills development were important factors to unleash the potential of youths in the Niger Delta region.  He said the aim was to help youths acquire meaningful, self-reliant skills to improve their lives, support their families and communities and thereby ensure peace in the region.  Ogbuku said the training programme and other youth programmes of the NDDC had been carefully considered and included in the commission’s 2024 budget, stressing that this was not in response to protests in other parts ...

Even with the Court Order stopping Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly from passing the bill for a law to end rotational headship of the state Traditional Rulers Council (TRC) to allow permanent headship by the majority Ibibio ethnic group in the state. The State’s 8th House on Friday passed the Bill for a law to amend the Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 155 Laws of Akwa Ibom State, 2023 (HAB 316) against the disapproval by the people of Annangs, Akwa Ibom second largest ethnic group who had sought the restraining order from the State High Court presided over by Justice Ntong Ntong. Who Are The Ibibos

The Ibibio people, who speak a Niger-Congo language called Ibibio or Efik-Ibibio. History has it that Ibibo people have been in the present day Nigeria since 7,000 BCE.  They were "The Man's World kind of society" and are believed to have first settled in a place they called Ibom, which  was the name of their an  ancestor. The Ibibo people are an ethnic group predominantly found in southern part of Nigeria, specifically in the Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Rivers and Abia States.  They are related to the Ibibio people and speak a related language known as Ibibio-Efik.
