He said the youth training programme will equip 10,000 individuals in the Niger Delta region with the necessary training and expertise for paid employment and self-employment through entrepreneurship.

Director-General of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said entrepreneurship and skills development were important factors to unleash the potential of youths in the Niger Delta region.

He said the aim was to help youths acquire meaningful, self-reliant skills to improve their lives, support their families and communities and thereby ensure peace in the region.

Ogbuku said the training programme and other youth programmes of the NDDC had been carefully considered and included in the commission’s 2024 budget, stressing that this was not in response to protests in other parts of the country.

“The programme will also set benchmarks on its impact on the economy of the Niger Delta region,” he stressed. Admission to the programme will be highly competitive and will be based on merit.

Applicants will be required to provide a personal statement in their applications to reflect their commitment to achieving the objectives of the programme and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.

” Ogbuku noted that the programme will empower young beneficiaries in the areas of technology, music, arts, agriculture and marine, among others, adding that during the 12-month training period, each trainee will receive a stipend of N50,000 per month.

He called on the beneficiaries of the programme to set a good example for future beneficiaries, stressing that registration will be done exclusively online through: www.nyis.nddc.gov.ng

The NDDC Chairman said all nine NDDC states will have 500 slots before the oil production quotas for the remaining slots are implemented.
