You Won’t Be Forsaken” — Tinubu Assures Gov. Umo Eno as He Join APC, Promises Ibom Deep Seaport Project

UYO, AKWA IBOM — June 21, 2025

In a major political event that signals a shift in Akwa Ibom’s political alignment, Governor Pastor Umo Eno officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The grand reception, held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, drew national attention and heavyweights from across Nigeria's political spectrum.

Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered a passionate message of reassurance and support to the governor and the people of Akwa Ibom.

“Governor Eno, you will not be forsaken or humiliated. You’re one of us now, and we will rise together.”

A Historic Political Move

Governor Umo Eno’s move to APC comes after months of speculation and strategic alignment. He had previously been seen working closely with the Tinubu-led administration on development-focused issues, particularly around the Ibom Deep Seaport.

Vice President Shettima highlighted the importance of unity and inclusion in the APC family, saying:

“We are not an assemblage of politicians; we are a family. You will never regret this decision. We stood by Akpabio when he was under fire — we will stand by you too.”

🔧 Ibom Deep Seaport and Development Promises

A key highlight from the event was the renewed federal commitment to build the long-awaited Ibom Deep Seaport, a strategic coastal investment that promises to transform Akwa Ibom into a maritime and industrial hub.

President Tinubu, through his representative, pledged:

  • 🚢 Construction of Ibom Deep Seaport
  • 🛣️ Federal support for infrastructure renewal in Akwa Ibom
  • 👩‍🔧 Youth empowerment, skills acquisition, and economic inclusion
  • ⚙️ Greater integration of Akwa Ibom into national development frameworks

🗣️ Akpabio, Others Laud Umo Eno

Also present was the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who commended Governor Eno for “taking the bold step” and reaffirmed that the governor had always supported President Tinubu’s administration even before defecting officially.

“This is not new to us; the governor has always identified with the center. Now he has taken the official step, and we welcome him as a full partner in progress.”

The People Are Watching

With these bold promises, the spotlight now turns to the Federal Government and its commitment to follow through.

“The people of Akwa Ibom will hold the President and APC to their words,” a local political analyst told NdonEyo2 Blog. “This is a defining moment.”
